Beaded Edge Vintage Tyre

beaded edge tyres

Beaded Edge or clincher tyre have flexible grooved beads that are held in place by the clinches of the rim. They were used on early bicycles, most cars up to 1924 and most motorcycles up to 1927. Some European cars used them up until 1928. European sizes were mainly in millimetres, whilst American sizes were in inches.
Beaded Edge Tyres need high tyre pressure with a minimum pressure for cars of 60 psi. Beaded Edge were a unreliable technology, which is why the tyre manufactures at the time started to look for a better solution
